Serious and hilarious - more than 5 stars
This is crime-solving at its best: serious cold crime cases, solved by 3 detectives who each have their own strengths and hilarious idiosyncracies. They're like buddies who are astute in their professional roles but still give each other a hard time, and enjoy a good laugh with their viewers. Programs like Law & Order can be sooo drawn out and somewhat predictable. This show is much more sophisticated; viewers understand and feel outraged at horrendous crimes, yet we're entertained with the detectives' antics and schemes, and we're not bored because no two crimes are solved the same way. I highly recommend this show and all future seasons. The quality of the actors and the amusing, intelligent writing are superb - offering us a truly entertaining and absorbing crime dramedy.

New Tricks - great bit of television viewing
Was told about this series by my brother, got season 1 and enjoyed it thoroughly, so when I finished watching the season, I ordered season 2.

Outstanding
I didn't know what to expect when I decided to purchase this Series New Tricks. I tried "You rang me lord" from a review, I found it silly, not funny. New Tricks, on the other hand is fantastic, excellent plots, very good acting, and catch me totally off guard funny. The characters come out with those one liners that at first make your mouth hang open, then you bust out laughing. I love this program and have now bought all 5 and preordered season 6. Please keep them coming, they are great.

Really good fun
Thoroughly enjoyed this series (except for the last episode which was a bit bizarre). Strongly recommend this if you are a crime fiction buff like me

ONE OF THE BEST BBC DRAMAS - LOVE IT
DID NOT CATCH THIS ON TELLY WHEN IT WAS FIRST AIRED DID NOT FANCY THE CONCEPT. GOT INTO FROM SERIES TWO AND WHAT A BRILLIANT SERIES THIS IS. LOVE AMANDA REDMAN AS THE BOSS OF THE THREE EX-DETECTIVES PLAYED BY ALUN ARMSTRONG, DENIS WATERMAN AND JAMES BOLAM. THE SCRIPTS ARE ORIGINAL AND SHARP AND THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE FOUR IS SUPERB. THE RESULTS IN THE COLD CASES SOMETIMES YOU SEE A MILE OFF BUT STILL VERY ENTERTAINING. MY FAVOURITE IS ALUN AS BRIAN LANE THE ECCENTRIC RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC WHOSE MEMORY IS SHARPER THAN RAIN MAN'S, HIS KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTERS WHICH BAFFLES HIS COLLEAGUES AND THE SCENES BETWEEN HIS WIFE ESTHER (PLAYED BY SUSAN JAMESON - JAMES BOLAM'S REAL-LIFE WIFE) ARE HEARTWARMING BECAUSE THIS DOMESTIC SET-UP PROVIDES PLENTY OF LAUGHS FOR BRIAN AND LONG-SUFFERING ESTHER. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND WOULD SUGGEST YOU PURCHASE SERIES 2 - 6 IMMEDIATELY.
